Mailing list components

Mailing list components

This object contains a real person profile details, who has been subscribed for your account mailings.

To create a new subscriber you need to add at least his email address, which is used as his unique ID in the list.

Besides the email address, there are 12 standard fields and the unlimited number of custom fields.

Such fields are used for the subscribers segmentation in order to make your letters more personalized.

All subscribers are saved in the lists and can’t exist as a separate unit.

A subscriber with a single email can be added to several lists, but there can’t be several equal emails added to one list.

A subscriber has one of six states in the List.

States (statuses) may vary for one and the same email address in different lists.

This is a container for your subscribers.

Each list is a separate object, that’s why one and the same subscriber can be added to several Lists.

All subscribers details are saved in standard and custom fields.

A list appears as a subscribers source in the campaign. In order to use several lists in one campaign a user should unite them in one segment.

Also segments help to pick target groups of subscribers from one or several lists.

There are two main List types depending on the subscription confirmation (opt-in type):

1. Double - a subscription is confirmed by the opt-in letter. Before a subscriber clicks the confirmation link, he or she has the Unconfirmed status and doesn’t receive most campaign letters.

While importing a subscribers list from the file, a user can uncheck and an opt-in letter wouldn’t be sent to the subscriber.

The status of such subscriber will be changed to Subscribed.

2. Single - this subscription type doesn’t need a confirmation. A subscriber imported manually, from file or via API gets the Subscribed status.

Subscribers view, export and import, and list edit are available on the lists page (Subscribers tab > Lists).

Segmentation - allows to divide subscribers into groups with similar characteristics in order to send them messages with different content, explore their reactions, pick the target groups and search for the way to work with them.

The Segmentation’s aim is to pick a particular part of subscribers from the total mass. For ex., subscribers with the email domain Or subscribers from Germany.

Segment - is a part of one or several lists, which includes subscribers, whose details fit the segment conditions.

A segment may not have any conditions and be used only to group subscribers from several different lists.

After a segment is created, it may be included to a campaign as a subscribers source.

Also segments can be used for:

1. Subscribers export.

2. Subscribers copying.

3. Subscribers details update.

Segment is a set of conditions, upon which subscribers will be picked from the lists.

A segment creation, editing and etc. are available on the segments page(Subscribers tab > Segments).

Suppression list

Suppression list - is a list of email addresses and domains, which should be excluded from your messages.

A suppression list is an independent object. It includes only subscribers email addresses and domains.

A suppression list filters email addresses at the moment a campaign is launched.

Each ALTKRAFT account has one global suppression list. A user doesn’t need to add it to lists or messages - this suppression list is always active.

Also users can create additional local suppression lists.

Local suppression lists can be attached to lists and messages manually.

As far as a campaign may include a segment with several suppression lists and several messages, these suppression lists are considered according to the particular rules.

Suppression lists are used in accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act regulatory requirements.

Suppression lists creation, import and export is available on the suppression Lists page (Subscribers tab > Suppression Lists).

Global Suppression List

A Global suppression list is automatically created in each ALTKRAFT account. A user doesn’t need to attach it to lists or messages - this suppression list is always active.

A user can add subscribers to the global suppression list manually or import them from a file (as it happens with a general suppression list).

In order to move subscribers to the Global suppression list automatically, a user needs to add a Global unsubscribe URL “{globalunsubscribe}” to the message.

Subscribers, who clicked this URL, will be blacklisted and excluded from all mailings.

Message - is an email.

It consists of two main parts: HTML version and Text version.

HTML version allows to set up the letter’s appearance using all HTML and CSS languages resources.

However, not all the providers and email clients show the HTML version, also some users disable it too. In this case a letter text version is used. A text version contains simple text without formatting.

Very often subscribers don’t receive messages without a text version at all. A user can use in a message:

  1. Subscriber details
  2. Fragments
  3. External JSON content
  4. External HTML content
  5. Images uploaded to ALTKRAFT
  6. Integrations
  7. Read and Open pixels, which collect statistics on the amount of read and opened letters.
  8. A link to the Subscription Manager, where a subscriber can change his personal data and manage his subscriptions. For example, he can cancel it or re-subscribe in case he was accidentally unsubscribed.
  9. An unsubscribe link, so that a subscriber could completely unsubscribe from all mailings.

Messages are sent to subscribers through campaigns.

Several different messages can be added to one campaign. In this case they will be delivered to subscribers in a random way, but even though each subscriber will receive only one message.

It is possible to create trigger campaigns. A trigger campaign launches when particular actions are taken in a particular message by a subscriber.

All mail-outs are managed by this element.

A campaign consists of all mail-out elements: lists, segments, suppression lists and messages.

To create a campaign a user needs at least one message and one list with one subscriber.

Creation, editing and a list of campaigns are available on the Campaigns page.

Also here a user can learn more info on the campaign date and time launch.

There are 4 main campaign types:

1. Broadcast campaign

2. Regular campaign

3. Trigger campaign. It has 8 sub-types:

4. Split-test (А/В test) campaign. It has three sub-types:

  • By clicks amount
  • By opens amount
  • According to the user’s decision
